Genvevieve, Thank you for the kind response.
No he did not use it in anger. He spent the year he was in the service on duty along the border with Mexico.
Question: How tough would it be to get a copy of the colorized photo you have of Elmer Ekblaw? I'd love to have a copy!

Thank you for such interesting postings about the Crockerland Expedition.
Elmer Ekblaw was an acquaintence of my great grandparents and my grandfather while he was a professor at the U of I. My grandfather graduated from the U of I in 1918 and immediately entered military service. Upon learning this, Mr Ekblaw gave my grandfather the Colt pistol and holster he had taken with him to the North Pole. He wanted my grandfather to use the pistol for his personal protection while in the service. I now possess the pistol and holster and occasionally shoot it! I received a letter from the Colt archivist which substantiates the fact that the pistol was shipped to Abercrombie & Fitch (outfitters of expedtions at the time) in NYC in early 1913. I also have a copy of the book Mr Ekblaw wrote in 1918 titled: "Along Unknown Shores, narratives of Exploration in the Far North".
I thought I would share this. Kim
