The mission of the Commonwealth Corps is to engage Massachusetts residents of all ages and backgrounds in service to strengthen communities, address unmet community needs, and increase volunteerism. Commonwealth Corps members with CitySprouts will serve 10.5 months in a full-time capacity. What they have in common is a desire to put their talents and ideas to use in the service of their communities and the Commonwealth.<\/p>\n

CitySprouts\u2019 mission is to develop, implement & maintain beautiful, resource-rich school gardens in collaboration with public school communities. Integrated into curriculum, our gardens inspire teachers, students & families with a deep, hands-on connection to the food cycle, sustainable agriculture & the natural environment. CitySprouts will host 2 full-time Commonwealth Corps members who will serve as Middle School Coordinators, leading Out-of- School Time (OST) & in-school programs in Cambridge & Boston and reaching 175 students. Through their service, members will be lead educators for our Middle School pilot at 6 schools and they will develop & implement family engagement plans with partner schools. In addition, they will leverage the work of 250 volunteers throughout our network of 23 partner schools who will engage in garden education and building projects.<\/p>\n

\n

Responsibilities:<\/em><\/p>\n

Essential<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2022 <\/span>Complete a minimum of 1,500 hours of service, serving through June 24, 2017.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 <\/span>Attend all required Commonwealth Corps trainings and service events held by <\/span><\/span><\/span>MSA (minimum of 6 total) and CitySprouts, including a new member orientation on August 15 & 16, 2016.<\/p>\n

\u2022 <\/span>Participate in a minimum of 1 hour of MSA-related activities each week (in <\/span><\/span><\/span>person or virtually).<\/p>\n

\u2022 <\/span>Participate in CitySprouts regular Staff and Program Team meetings, as well <\/span><\/span><\/span>as Supervisor 1:1 meetings.<\/p>\n

\u2022 <\/span>Serve as lead educators for our Middle School pilot at 6 schools in Boston <\/span><\/span><\/span>& Cambridge by developing curricula, facilitating lesson plans and performing weekly evaluations.<\/p>\n

\u2022 <\/span>Develop & implement family engagement plans with select partner <\/span><\/span><\/span>schools and create a model framework for CitySprouts to use organization-wide.<\/p>\n

\u2022 <\/span>Facilitate and lead volunteers in garden education and building projects.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Qualifications:<\/em><\/p>\n

Required<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2022 <\/span>Massachusetts residency and legal authorization to work in the United States<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 <\/span>18 years of age or older<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 <\/span>Experience with or interest in volunteerism and community engagement<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 <\/span>Ability to balance service commitment with other <\/span><\/span><\/span>family\/work\/school\/community commitments in a sustainable way<\/p>\n

\u2022 <\/span>Experience working or volunteering in urban public schools, preferably <\/span><\/span><\/span>Cambridge or Boston<\/p>\n

\u2022 <\/span>Experience and\/or interest in teaching Science<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 <\/span>Experience in leading volunteer or group projects<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 <\/span>Experience in leading a family or community engagement project<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 <\/span>Ability to lift up to 40 pounds occasionally<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Preferred<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2022 <\/span>Excitement for serving with Middle Schoolers<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 <\/span>Experience working or volunteering in a garden or kitchen environment.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 <\/span>Access to a car or truck for occasional use (access to a vehicle is not a<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

requirement)<\/p>\n

Member Benefits:<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2022 <\/span>Stipend <\/strong><\/span><\/span>of $479.16 every other week while in service, up to $11,500, minus taxes and<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

withholdings;<\/p>\n

\u2022 <\/span>Health insurance (full-time members only<\/strong><\/span><\/span>, individual coverage only);<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 <\/span>Completion award <\/strong><\/span><\/span>of up to $2,000 upon successful completion of service, minus<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

taxes and withholdings;<\/p>\n

\u2022 <\/span>Training and other professional development <\/strong><\/span><\/span>opportunities;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 <\/span>Limited reimbursement for travel <\/strong><\/span><\/span>to Corps-wide MSA-sponsored activities;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 <\/span>Limited travel reimbursement from their host site for certain service-related travel away<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

from their usual service location, according to that agency’s policies;<\/p>\n

\u2022 <\/span>The opportunity for at least 10 days of planned absences (may include holidays); and<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 <\/span>Opportunity to join with others with a common sense of purpose as part of the <\/span><\/span><\/span>Commonwealth Corps.<\/p>\n

Please note that receipt of these stipends\/benefits may impact an individual\u2019s eligibility for certain public benefits.<\/p>\n

\u2022 <\/span>Service commitment will average 40 hours per week during the following days\/times: <\/span><\/span><\/span>Generally, Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm, with approximately 1 evening and 1 weekend day per month, scheduled with advance notice.<\/p>\n
