{"id":6585,"date":"2017-09-11T20:54:02","date_gmt":"2017-09-11T20:54:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/researchbdev.wpengine.com\/environmental-studies-newsletter\/?p=6585"},"modified":"2017-09-11T20:59:48","modified_gmt":"2017-09-11T20:59:48","slug":"6585","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/research.bowdoin.edu\/environmental-studies-newsletter\/networking-opportunity\/6585\/","title":{"rendered":"Volunteer Opportunity: Facilitate STEM activities in local schools"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Support your local community: facilitate STEM activities in local schools!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Every year, 4-H recruits, trains and places undergraduate and graduate students in local schools, libraries and afterschool programs to facilitate experiential STEM activities with youth (grades 3 &#8211; 8).\u00a0 We provide all the training, support, and materials for these students to be successful, and our host sites provide supervision to take care of any behavior issues.\u00a0 In short, we set students up for a successful, enjoyable time helping local youth learn science while having fun!<\/p>\n<p>We generally have three times as many requests as we do students to fill them.\u00a0 I&#8217;d appreciate it if you&#8217;d announce this opportunity to students in your classes, or allow me to come for 5 &#8211; 10 minutes early this semester to do so.<\/p>\n<p>Trainings for fall will be held the second and third weeks of September.\u00a0 Several training times and locations will be available at both UMaine and UMaine Augusta.<\/p>\n<p>Interested?
