Together for ME is a project designed to foster early understanding of language diversity and tolerance among primary school children. In collaboration with Multilingual Mainers, the initiative translates and creates multilingual recordings of picture books. Led by multilingual students and faculty, this effort highlights language diversity, promotes language access, and builds a sense of belonging for multilingual students in the Brunswick community and beyond.
The oral recordings were created by students in Dr. Puma Ninacuri’s course, “Spanish in the Latinx and Diaspora Communities in the US.” The following students worked to translate various children’s books: Grace Travis, Shandiin Largo, Rachea McDonald, Julia Finke, Owen Weller, Maya Benitez Longo, Isabella Savramis, Diego DeSousa, Kate Mellman, Camilla Rawlings, Joseph Gonzalez, Javier Gallegos, Charles Wang, Michelle Morales, Mathew Hernandez, and Cameron Shelly. Additionally, the following students are course assistants that helped with logistics and mentorship: Michelle Padilla Soto, Alexandra Camargo, and Adrián Salcedo Silva. This project was also supported by the Bowdoin College McKeen Center for the Common Good.
