Multilingual Mainers

March 20, 2024

Multilingual Mainers at Educators for a Multilingual Maine 2024 Conference

Professor Margaret Boyle was the keynote speaker at this year’s Educators for a Multilingual Maine (EMME) conference at USM Lewiston-Auburn in early March. She shared the history of the Multilingual Mainers program, discussed language justice practices, and offered ideas and opportunities for advocacy and community partnerships. Professor Christian Puma Ninacuri (PhD, Linguistics) and Mohamed Kilani (Bowdoin alum and current Spanish teacher at Falmouth Elementary) shared their personal language stories.

Additionally, Margaret Boyle collaborated with faculty and staff members at Kate Furbish Elementary to host a workshop on multilingual learning at Brunswick School Department, including shifting student demographics, classroom practices, and multilingual and multicultural children’s book recommendations.
