Neal Auction, Louisiana Purchase Auction, October 1, 2 & 3, 2004, Lot 722. A Rare Louisiana Creole Gros Rouge Painted Punkah, late 18th/early 19th c., appears to be Southern yellow pine, pegged, mortise and tenon construction, with a raised central panel surrounded by applied molding, waisted triangular shape with strongly curving shoulders, and lower corners flanking a shaped skirt, hanging elements include small wrought iron pins extending from the lower portion of each shoulder and a round finial-type projection drilled with a hole; retains the original surface, height 40 1/2 in., width 35 in.
