Bowdoin Institutional Research Fellowships (Phase one deadline 2/13)

I write to remind you that this spring the College’s Student Fellowships Committee will award more than 50 institutional research fellowships. Opportunities exist in all disciplines, and I hope you will encourage students to apply.

As in past years, there is a two-phase online application process.

Phase One ApplicationDue by noon on February 13. This very basic application will take a student less than five minutes to complete. It simply indicates the student’s intent to apply and triggers an e-mail to the faculty mentor with instructions on how to submit a letter of recommendation by the phase two deadline. No action is required by faculty for the phase one deadline. The phase one application can be found on the “Application and Forms” page of the Student Fellowships and Research website. Once students complete the phase one application, they will be e-mailed a link to the phase two application.

Phase Two Application – Due by noon on February 27. Students will be required to upload a two-page project description and budget (if applicable) as part of the phase two application. Letters of recommendation from faculty are also due by noon on February 27 and should be emailed to Corey Colwill (ccolwill@bowdoin.edu).

New for 2017! In past years, institutional fellowships have been capped at 8 weeks; however, beginning this summer, applicants will be able to choose 8, 9, or 10 weeks of research. Students are being instructed to make this decision in conversation with their faculty mentors and will be asked to make a binding decision on the length of their fellowship when they submit their phase two application.

For more details, I invite you to visit our website. You can find a PDF version of the institutional research fellowship brochure [here] as well information about letters of recommendation and the selection criteria for institutional fellowships [here].

As always, please don’t hesitate to contact me (cstocks@bowdoin.edu) or Corey Colwill (ccolwill@bowdoin.edu) if you have any questions.

Best,
