BIOLOGIST II (Wildlife)

The Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is seeking to fill a Wildlife Biologist vacancy in Augusta.

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: This is a supervisory Wildlife Biologist position, which is assigned full time to the Department of Agriculture Conservation and Forestry/Bureau of Parks and Lands (BPL).

The position is responsible for ensuring wildlife habitat objectives are incorporated and achieved in the Bureau’s management of public lands, including acquiring data, providing information and writing the fishery and wildlife component of management plans. The position acts as a liaison between Bureau of Parks and Lands and other Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Biologists on habitat management plans.

Responsibilities of the position are statewide and include the development of policies and operational standards for wildlife resource values as it relates to the Bureau’s multiple use management objectives, develop and oversee implementation of projects for the enhancement of fishery and wildlife habitats and work cooperatively with BPL to minimize conflicts between timber and wildlife management.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelors Degree in Biology, Wildlife Management, or related field -AND- three (3) years experience in laboratory or field research of fish and wildlife including experience in a supervisory capacity. Directly related work experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
