NECEC is the U.S. Northeast’s leading clean energy regional organization, and is the regional affiliate of the global Cleantech Open organization, running the Cleantech Open Northeast business accelerator and competition, and building a world-class clean energy hub across the region.
NECEC is seeking a Communications & Community Outreach Manager for its Cleantech Open Northeast team. The Communications and Commun ity Outreach Manager manages day-to-day operations of the accelerator program. Key responsibilities include communications (with mentors, cleantech entrepreneurs, and volunteers) and event organization. The position works in collaboration with the entire NECEC team, and under the direction of the Cleantech Open Northeast Director, manages a highly experienced network of volunteers across the region’s community of top thought-leaders, investors, entrepreneurs, and business people in the cleantech industry throughout the Northeast region. This role allows the individual to contribute to the growth and success of cleantech startups across the region.
Responsibilities
Cleantech Open Northeast runs on an annual calendar cycle. This startup accelerator engages sponsors and leading cleantech companies and the innovation community, runs events and outreach to recruit applicants (over 100 in 2016), selects the most promising and ready startups for the annual cohort, matches startups to mentors and experts, provides leading entrepreneurial education and guidance on the startups’ business plans and pitches, and organizes judges and the region’s leading cleantech investors, partners, and executives for the annual competition and finals event.
The Communications & Community Outreach Manager reports to the Director of Cleantech Open Northeast. S/he is instrumental to the day-to-day operations of the accelerator program.
Key responsibilities include communications (with mentors, participants, and volunteers) and event organization. Responsibilities may include and may not be limited to:
● Strategic management and content development for all CTONE communications to
stakeholders including startup companies, industry experts, volunteers, partners, and
sponsors.
● Act as the primary community manager for our mentors and experts, Cleantech Open
Northeast accelerator entrepreneurs, and new volunteers including outreach, systems
support, and customer service.
● Manage CRM, systems, and tracking programs associated with program activities.
● Manage the quality control process for Cleantech Open Northeast accelerator including
surveying teams and mentors regularly (25+ instances throughout the year).
● Support Cleantech Open Northeast Director in streamlining partner and sponsor
relationship management activities.
● Lead Cleantech Open Northeast communications and media relations effort, including
drafting and distributing press releases related to accelerator milestones and program
news, managing media inquiries, updating the Cleantech Open Northeast website and
social media accounts.
● In coordination with NECEC Events Manager, assist in planning, logistics and execution
of Cleantech Open Northeast events.
● Oversee recruitment of entrepreneurs, mentors, and volunteers to Cleantech Open
Northeast program, including building out lead tracker and managing volunteers
assisting with outreach.
● Management of Cleantech Open Northeast Intern.
● Support Cleantech Open Northeast Director as requested.
Qualifications
The position requires a motivated, self-starter with strong project management and
organizational skills to manage internal and external communications activities and operations for of the Cleantech Open Northeast regional competition. Ideal candidates will have professional experience in communications, operations, and project management, an interest in clean energy and the innovation economy, and a demonstrated track record of strong performance. Relevant experience with cleantech venture and entrepreneurial initiatives a plus.
● Bachelor’s degree, relevant graduate experience a plus
● Strong public speaking and presentation skills
● Ability to communicate and work with a variety of stakeholders including entrepreneurs,
sustainable-driven companies, mentors and volunteers, and innovation support
organizations
● Excellent verbal and written communicator and relationship builder with an attention to
detail
● Superior and organized project manager with the ability to see through multiple events in
coordination with a variety of partner organizations
● Customer-centric attitude with high level of professionalism
● Ability to recruit and manage a large pool of volunteers and interns
● High energy and incredibly hard worker with the ability to work independently or as part
of a team, and manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
● Demonstrable enthusiasm and interest in entrepreneurship and clean technologies
● Experience in recruitment, sales, business development, or community outreach
preferred
● Proficiency in Google and Office programs (Google Docs, Sheets, Word, Excel,
PowerPoint, etc.) Experience with social media tools and content management systems,
including Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook
Salary and Compensation
Salary commensurate with experience, and standard benefits package.
