Bowdoin went down in its first match of the U.S. Open 4-0. The match featured much falling down and many broken robots. We learned afterwards that we weren’t getting any sensor information except for from the camera. So basically nothing that helped us walk, or detect that we were falling, etc. At the time this was very depressing. Once we learned of the bug it was a big relief. We actually had a couple of great scoring opportunities that ended with a fall and a broken robot. Video to come later.

RoboCup 2010: Singapore
And so begins the journey east!
The Bowdoin based crew heads out today, flying via Frankfurt on their way to Singapore. Chown-Dawg, Nathan, Octavian, and Elise will be landing in the host nation early Friday! I myself (Jack) depart from the beautiful city of Berlin tomorrow and will arrive Friday. At some point soon (I think), we’ll be joined by Wils, as well.
We’ve got a small team this year, but we’ve got the FIRE and we’re looking forward to a great competition. Andrew, Octavian, and Nathan (along with the Chown-Dawg, of course) have been working furiously on campus for the past month, and we’re all excited to put on a good showing this year.
We’re going to be part of an Exhibition match for Singapore’s Minister of Education, as well, which will be an honor for all of us. It will be taking place after the opening ceremonies on June 20. Participating in the demo with us will be B-Human of Germany, rUNSWift of Australia, and Team Nanyang of Singapore. We’ve got lots to do before then, but it’ll be a great warm up for the competition.
Get ready for an onslaught of updates and posts from competition!
Roll!
Jack
