nBites 3 – Microsoft Hellhounds 2

I take it back. This was by far a more exciting game than the one against Wright Eagle yesterday. Our teams were very evenly matched but we managed to outscore our opponents with some last minute shooting and timing changes. There was some controversy surrounding a disallowed goal, but fortunately we had enough goals even without that one to edge out the Hellhounds.

Video, of course, to follow

nBites 3 Wright Eagle 4

We played a tough match against Wright Eagle. It was by far the most exciting of our matches so far, but unfortunately we could not eke out a win. We have a practice match against the Nubots coming up soon, and tomorrow we have a match against ASURA. Videos of the past few matches are still coming.

Game #2: nBites 9 FCTwaves 1.

We had our second official match this morning which we managed to win 9-1. We had a bit of wireless troubles at the half, but two timeouts later and everything was fine.

Video of our practice vs AustinVilla and GermanTeam are being encoded right now. Video of the official match vs FCTwaves will come later.

We have a very tough match coming up versus Wright Eagle at 5:30. They’re seeded higher than us, so this should be an exciting game.

Edit: 9-1, not 10-1

Wii-controlled robots, and more

nintendo and sony, together at last

A team managed to hook up the wii remote and nunchuck to wirelessly control their AIBO dogs. While obviously not allowed in an actual match, they were having a good time controlling their robots against an actual team on a practice field.

We had a fun practice match against University of Texas at 6PM which we managed to win. The video encoding of the match at 2 pm is taking much longer than anticipated, but should be uploaded before the end of the night.

Looking forward to scrimmaging the GermanTeam tonight. Should be a very even match

NBites 7 – JollyPochie 1

We had our first official match at 2:30 this afternoon. After a slow first half, we picked up 5 uncontested goals in the second. Most of the wireless problems we’ve been having in the past days have been resolved, so we’re very excited for our upcoming games. We have another match at 6 versus the University of Texas.

Video to come of the earlier match.

Day 2: The end of the prep time

After the lighting problems of yesterday, and due to the complaints of key members of many teams, additional lights were brought in early in the morning. Since our hotel is literally right across the street from the venue, we were one of the first teams here at 7 and had the fields mostly to ourselves for a short period of time to try to recalibrate for the new lighting conditions. So happy to be up at 7

The Nubots briefly demonstrated their walking bear robot. You can see a short clip of it here.

We just finished two scrimmages, one against the GermanTeam and one against a Chilean team. After a short period without a goalie, we managed to do very well against the GermanTeam; the final score in that match was 2-1 in their favor.

After ironing out some bugs we that we discovered in the scrimmages, we should be ready to go tomorrow in our first match against JollyPochie at 2:30 tomorrow.

More to come

Day 1

welcome

After approximately 11 hours of time spent traveling to airports, waiting in airports, flying, being stranded due to a lightning storm, etc., we finally made it to Atlanta by around 2 or 3. We also met up with Jeremy at the Atlanta airport, rounding out our total roster to 8.

The hotel we are staying in is absolutely stunning. I’ll include a few pictures so you can see what I’m talking about.

We got to the event this morning by around noon and have been working to get things ready for the first matches on Tuesday. Unfortunately, the lights are still being set up as I type this so there’s not too much we can test until that’s finished.

The field material is much different than that of our lab (it has much less friction so the ball rolls farther) and is a different color, so it will take a lot of work in the next day or two to put our team back into fighting shape.

As Henry would say, Northern Bites, ROLL!
